Som du sikkert er klar over: Bertine Zetlitz er på vei til Statene, for å delta i den omflakkende kvinnefestivalen Lilith Fair. Samtidig slippes hennes Spellemannprisbelønte Morbid Latenight Show (distr.: EMI/MSO) over there. Just when it appeared that the Norwegian music scene would forever be seen as just a source of pop pabulum, along comes Bertine - an enigmatic ingenue with a collection of artful yet infectious jams.

Already the recipient numerous critical roses abroad, "Morbid
Latenight Show" shows the Oslo-based songstress as more than just the
direct descendent of Tori Amos and Björk, as many have described her. For within Bertine's melodically complex songs, there are also multitudes of lyrical twists, wispy vocal turns, and tonal shadings. If anything, such characteristics make her more reminiscent of Jane Siberry or an aggressive Enya. An array of turntable ready dance rhythms add accessibility to the set, which might otherwise be dismissed as an album for brainy popsters.

The tracks deftly dart from chilly, skittering electronica to meaty house anthems, the beats perfectly measured to energize the songs but not overpower them. It's the final element to a disc that demands attention from both adventurous listeners and straight-up top 40 punters.
